Singer and rapper, Lawal Olumo, popularly known as Konga, has shared his thoughts on the difficulty artistes face in finding genuine love. According to him, misconceptions about artistes often make it challenging to build meaningful relationships.
“Sometimes, people forget that we are human beings before being artistes. As an artist, finding true love isn’t easy; introducing yourself as an artist often leads others to assume you’re not serious or just a player,” he lamented.
Konga also spoke about how love inspired his latest project, Taste of Love, which marks a shift in his musical style and focus.
“I recently found support and warmth in love, which significantly influenced the album. The main reason why I titled it Taste of Love is because I moved from my usual energetic dance songs to a new trend of sound that is out right now, featuring new Gen Z artistes. Imagine Konga, known as a street guy, singing love songs and slowing the rap to a minimum,” he explained.
Reflecting on industry challenges, Konga highlighted the rising costs of music video production. “How can you ask me to bring 30 million for just one music video? It’s insane and part of why booking an artiste is so expensive,” he said.
While commending efforts to combat piracy, he called on the government to address corruption and urged artistes to support initiatives like the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria.
