Alex Cooper Reveals Why Her Non-Political Podcast Interviewed Kamala Harris

Podcaster Alex Cooper has shared her reasoning for interviewing Kamala Harris, despite her podcast “Call Her Daddy” typically avoiding political topics.
Cooper featured the vice president in a widely publicized episode released on Sunday, focused on the subject of women’s rights, including abortion.
Explaining why she decided to discuss politics, Cooper revealed she had been “going back and forward on this decision for a while, to get involved or to not get involved.”
She said, “As you guys know, I do not usually discuss politics or have politicians on the show because I want ‘Call Her Daddy’ to be a place that everyone feels comfortable tuning in.”
Cooper continued, “But, at the end of the day, I couldn’t see a world in which one of the main conversations in this election is women and I’m not a part of it.”
She said that she was aware of the fact that her audience was very mixed politically, and added that her goal in speaking to the presidential candidate was not to “change your political affiliation.”
“Call Her Daddy,” launched in 2018, was ranked the fourth most popular podcast in the U.S. in the second quarter of this year by Edison Research. 90 percent of the show’s listeners are women, facts.net reported.
The podcast often tackles topics like mental health, trauma, and relationships and sex, but overall the focus relates to women and the day-to-day issues that they face, Cooper said.
Cooper said the podcast had also reached out to former President Donald Trump to invite him on the show to have a conversation about women’s rights, saying that “this isn’t a one-sided conversation.”
“He is welcome on ‘Call Her Daddy’ anytime,” she said.
Newsweek has contacted the campaigns of Harris and Trump via email for comment, as well as the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
“Call Her Daddy” was initially pitched as a “women’s locker-room conversation,” according to the Los Angeles Times, and after a highly publicized breakdown in her relationship with the show’s co-creator Sofia Franklyn, Cooper went on to develop the podcast as her own.
The show secured a major deal with Spotify in 2021, making it one of the highest-paid podcasts on the platform, and Cooper then became the highest-paid female podcast host, facts.net reported.
In August of this year, SiriusXM signed a three-year deal worth $100 million with Cooper, Bloomberg reported.
